Book enthusiasts reminded to nominate their favourite title for library promotion

TIME is fast running out for Ipswich residents to take part in a special promotion currently running through the Ipswich Library and Information Service.

Ipswich City Council Tourism and Libraries Committee Chairperson Councillor David Pahlke said Ipswich's favourite book promotion was being held by the city's library branches until August 29.

Cr Pahlke said the promotion was part of Ipswich's 150th anniversary celebrations this year.

"We want to find out what the people of Ipswich like to read and the title of the city's most popular book by determining what Ipswich's favourite adult title and young people's titles including picture story books are.

"Library members can vote for a title from a list of 50 titles in each category as supplied by Angus and Robertson or alternatively nominate a title that is not in the list.

"The lists features the first 50 books from Angus and Robertson's Top 100 Reads and their Kids' Top 50 list."

Cr Pahlke said the young people's fiction category was only open to four to 17-year-olds.

Voting can be carried out three ways:

  • At any branch of Ipswich Library and information Service;

  • Online via the Ipswich Library and Information Service website and;
  • By SMS through sending a text with title, author, voter's name and library membership number to 0419 780 653.

"All votes will be tallied and the title with the most votes in each category wins.

"All votes will be entered into random draws for prizes of book vouchers kindly donated by Angus and Robertson's Redbank Plaza store.

"There will be a $100 voucher awarded in the adult fiction section and a $50 voucher for the young people's section.

"We encourage people to take the time before August 29 to let the Ipswich Library and Information Service know what their favourite book is.

"It will be really interesting to learn what Ipswich residents class as their favourite books."
