BUNDAMBA Swim Centre will again provide the perfect 'pool party' backdrop for Australia Day celebrations in Ipswich on Tuesday, January 26. Parks, Sport and Recreation Committee Chairperson, Councillor David Morrison said Australia Day celebrations at Council swim centres had been successful for the past 13 years with around 1600 people enjoying the free community activities each year. "The objective is to take advantage of Council's swim centres and therefore promote an active Ipswich by encouraging leisure patronage as well as competitive use of our swim centres which are there for everyone to enjoy. "Last year's Australia Day celebration was a partnership project between Council Ipswich City Rotary with other companies providing support through goods in kind which were used as give-away's throughout the day. "Bundamba Swim Centre lessee, David Urquhart Swim School Pty Ltd, has agreed to partner with Council to ensure a successful 2010 Australia Day celebration." Cr Morrison said such events provided an increase in public awareness of Ipswich swim centres at Bundamba, Goodna, Rosewood and Leichhardt as recreational attractions of Ipswich. "The events attract not just existing but new patrons to the swim centres and showcase the facilities." Division 4 Councillor Trevor Nardi said entry to the Bundamba Swim Centre would be free on January 26, 2010. "Ipswich City Rotary members have agreed to support the event with a sausage sizzle providing sausage sandwiches for just $1.50 and proceeds going to a local charity," Cr Nardi said. "There will again be prizes on the day of two swimmer's gear bags, two by five Learn to Swim lessons and two by five Aqua fitness classes donated by the lessee and many other prizes donated by sponsors for the event. "The gates will open from 10am until close at 4pm so come along and have a fun filled free family day."
