IPSWICH based trail bike riders will soon be able to take ride the trails of the new regional trail bike facility at Wyaralong following approval of the concept by Ipswich City Council today. Parks, Sport and Recreation Committee Chairperson, Councillor David Morrison said eight member Councils from South East Queensland would fund the infrastructure at Wyaralong to provide legitimate riding options for recreational trail bike riders. "Trail bike riders across South East Queensland have been screaming out for a facility like this for years and it is great to see the State Government and combined Councils coming up with appropriate land and funding. "Each Council in South East Queensland will invest in the development of the facility which will be run by SEQ Recreational Facilities Pty Ltd of which each Council will be a shareholder." Cr Morrison said the facility would provide for all grades of trail bike riders and include barbecue and camping facilities to ensure families could enjoy. "The entire facility development has been estimated at $2.8 million with a $1 million investment having already been committed by the Queensland Government. "It is proposed that a private operator who will run the facility will contribute $500,000 towards its development with the final $1.3 million contribution to be shared among all SEQ Local Councils on a population/location share capita basis. "The provision of inexpensive and accessible legitimate trail bike facilities is one of a number of strategies that needs to be implemented to manage trail bike usage in South East Queensland. "The development of a regional facility at Wyaralong is a positive starting point and I am sure recreational motor cycle riders from around Ipswich are anxiously awaiting it to be set up."
