Council supports Brisbane 2 Ipswich challenge

AN estimated 1000 cyclists will ride into Ipswich on April 18 as part of the Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge.

Economic Development and Sustainability committee chairperson mayor Paul Pisasale said the city was proud to once again support this event.

The event, formerly known as the Mall 2 Mall bike ride, has become and integral part of Ipswich Festival celebrations, Cr Pisasale said.

"Council has supported this event since its inception in 2001 and we are happy to support it again in 2010," Cr Pisasale said.

"Many local cyclists ride to Brisbane to participate and it's great to see these local residents embrace the event and a healthy lifestyle.

"But more importantly, the challenge also brings a large number of Brisbane and Gold Coast residents to Ipswich where they are able to participate in the Ipswich Festival and enjoy all the city has to offer."

The theme for this year's event is 'the big family ride', with families encouraged to enter. The Brisbane 2 Ipswich Challenge is a charity event that raises funds for a number of organisations including the Heart Foundation and Ipswich Hospital Foundation.

The cycle challenge will be held on April 18, leaving from King George Square and taking in the Centenary Highway, Goodna RSL and Citiswich before ending in Queens Park.
