A COMPLETE list of the city's public artworks has been compiled, drawing attention to the diverse works that enhance public spaces across all divisions. Arts, Community and Cultural Services committee chairperson Cr Charlie Pisasale said the list was now available on the council's website and showcased a wealth of creative pieces. "These artworks are spread across Ipswich and are now part of the city's landscape," Cr Pisasale said. "From the modern recycled aluminium sculptures at Orion Town Centre, to the mining and agriculture façade on the former State Government Insurance Office building (now known as Players International Nightclub) which was installed in 1957, the artworks are as diverse as the landscape of the city itself. "The recent audit and the lists that are on council's website will hopefully help Ipswich residents rediscover these public art spaces." Cr Pisasale said it is imperative the city continues towards the development of a public art strategy as soon as practical and incorporate both private and public sectors within proposals for new projects.
