GRAVITY will be the driving force of the 2nd Annual Springfield Community Billy Cart Races to be held on Father's Day, Sunday September 5, 2010. Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson, Councillor Charlie Pisasale said the Billy Cart Race was coordinated by USQ in partnership with Ipswich City Council "The aim of the Billy Cart Race is to engage the community and contribute to building community spirit within Springfield and the Ipswich region. "This year the number of competitors is expected to increase with the additional race events attracting additional competitors." Cr Pisasale said Council would again provide a Chief Marshall on the day, and a Community Development Project Officer to work with USQ Springfield to coordinate the event and implement risk management planning and safety procedures. "USQ has already organised sponsorship resulting in a series of events over 50 metres a for the Delfin Dare Devils' Community Race and over 200 metres for the Flash Harry's Sinnathamby Race. "Contraptions are already being built and tested for the race with nomination forms available seeking entries. We are expecting a number of heats to find finalists for each event due to cash prizemoney and trophies on offer, not just for the winners. There will prizes for the slowest, most innovative design and even the best presented team on the day. "The 50 metre races will encourage increased participation by the broader community with more traditional billy carts. "The Springfield Community Billy Cart Race fosters social interaction and will enable residents to participate, celebrate and share in this fun-filled event to be run down Sinnathamby Boulevarde outside USQ." Cr Pisasale said anyone wishing to participate can access information at www.usq.edu/springfield/billycart or contact 0408 806 774.
