Ipswich birthday celebrations to continue during 150 Years in the Park event

A POPULAR annual Ipswich event has been re-named and included in the year-long celebration of Ipswich's 150th birthday.

Ipswich City Council Community Engagement Committee Chairperson Councillor Heather Morrow said the 150 Years in the Park event would be held from 12pm to 5pm on April 25 in Queen's Park as part of Ipswich's sesquicentennial celebrations.

"Throughout 2010, Ipswich is celebrating 150 years since it was proclaimed a municipality,"
she said.

"To recognise this important part of the city's history a number of events have been planned for throughout the year.

"This year, the event formerly known as Kids Kingdom will be called 150 Years in the Park and included in Ipswich's birthday celebrations.

"This event, which is part of the annual Ipswich Festival , is managed by the Ipswich Events Corporation.

"This year it will be expanded beyond the traditional children's activities and entertainment to include a much broader program targeting the whole family and the entire Ipswich community."

Cr Morrow said Ipswich community organisations were being invited to showcase their activities.

"There will also be an extended markets area with more than 100 stalls, extra food outlets,
a vintage car display, entertainment from local dance schools and choirs, a children's parades led by roving entertainers and two sessions of the "Ben 10" show.
