Ipswich youth urged to hurry up and apply for Ipswich Youth Advisory Council positions for 2010

TIME is running out for local youths to apply to become part of the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council in 2010. Council's Youth and Seniors Committee Chairperson Sheila Ireland said applications would close on February 19 and council wanted to encourage young people in the local community who were interested to put forward their details. "I want to encourage any young people interested in representing their peers on the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council to apply for a position for 2010," she said. Cr Ireland said membership of the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council's was open to young people aged from 12 to 17-years-old. "We are looking for a total of 11 young people to join the council this year to replace the outgoing members. "The Ipswich Youth Advisory Council was founded in 2007 to give Ipswich youth a special forum in which they can express a wide variety of views and ideas about issues affecting them. "The member's input is vital in assisting the community and council to understand and support the current needs of young people." Cr Ireland said the need for a youth advisory council in Ipswich was identified through a range of youth projects and initiatives. "Ipswich's young people were keen to be given the chance to have an input into their local community. "Council members to date have been full of interesting ideas and suggestions for Ipswich." Cr Ireland said the Ipswich Youth Advisory Council would be involved in many exciting events and activities in 2010. "In April they will be a part of Ipswich's National Youth Week celebrations. "Ipswich Youth Advisory Council members also will be given training and development opportunities to further strengthen their project management, communication and public speaking skills."
