June Sports Recognition Awards announced

QUEENSLAND junior representatives in rugby league, swimming and drag racing have won Ipswich City Council Junior Sports Recognition Awards for June.

Parks, Sport and Recreation Committee Chairperson, Councillor David Morrison said he was pleased to announce the monthly junior winners, AJ Raeli (rugby league), Montana Sansby (swimming) and Caleb Oberg (drag racing) for their selection for awards in June.

"Joshua Guest has received a senior Sports Recognition Award for representing Australia at the Beach Handball World Championships.

"Senior Sport Recognition Awards were also presented to Kelley O'Doherty and Brooke Jacob-Saunders for representing Queensland at the Oztag State of Origin."

Cr Morrison said the Sports Recognition award program provided monthly awards of $200, $300 and $400 and yearly awards of up to $4,000.

"Congratulations to the Sport Recognition Award winners for June, who received awards of $200 (National Events) and $300 (International Events) for their achievements.

"To gain this level of achievement in any sport takes a lot of personal commitment and their dedication is to be commended.

"All monthly Sport Recognition Award winners are in the running for the Ipswich Sport Achiever Awards of $400 as a reward for their excellence in sport.

"Finalists will be notified by mail and will be invited to attend an a quarterly breakfast award ceremony."

Cr Morrison said Junior and senior sportspersons were encouraged to apply for the July Sport Recognition Awards which are now open.

"I would also like to thank the sponsors including NuGrow Landscape Soils, Metro Hotel Ipswich International, ABC 612 Brisbane and Recruitment @ Top for helping to make this program possible."
