ARTIST Lloyd Nolan Hornsby will be a special guest when up to 15 Ipswich walking groups head to Brisbane for a special outing on March 22. The walking groups, as part of the Heart Foundation Walking Ipswich program, will take in the area around South Brisbane, stopping at the Queensland State Library to view the Heart Foundation East Coast Aboriginal Art Exhibition. Health and Regulation committee chairperson Councillor Andrew Antoniolli encourages Ipswich residents to join the walking groups' bridges of Brisbane tour and see the exhibition. "Walking groups are a fantastic way to get out and active, meet new people and see sights you wouldn't normal see," Cr Antoniolli said. "Having one of the exhibition's artists, Lloyd Nolan Hornsby, as a guide is especially exciting and is a real coup for the Heart Foundation Walking Ipswich Program." Mr Hornsby uses traditional dot painting methods to capture scenes from his memory and observations. Cr Antoniolli said the Heart Foundation walking groups embraced variety, taking in walks around Ipswich, Brisbane and beyond. "The Heart Foundation Ipswich walking groups meet weekly in their own suburb, then once or twice a month they go on special outings which may take them around Ipswich or to somewhere like Brisbane. "Then on other occasions the walking groups get really adventurous and go away for a weekend walk. Last year a group of walkers went to Magnet Island to pound the pavement and walking paths." The Heart Foundation Ipswich Walking Groups are free and everyone is welcome. The bridges of Brisbane walk starts at 10.30am on March 22 at the Kurilpa Bridge Entrance. The Ipswich contingent will catch the 9.10am train from Ipswich Railway Station to Roma Street. An easy and a moderate route will be available. Cr Antoniolli reminded residents to take water and sun protection on the walk.
