Where to now

![]() As the year draws to an end and for us Seniors we see the light at the end of 12 years of school we begin to think what now? Some of you would have already put in your university applications to sign up for another 5 years of the classroom. Some of you maybe thinking lets take a "gap" year, a break so you can think where do we really want to go from here? Me I have already applied for a double degree in Law and Business. But while all you seniors are off at schoolies (which I am to young to attend as I am only 15) and enjoying the Queensland summer, I will be heading off the day after year 12 graduations to live and train in Ireland for 3 months. I have been given an opportunity to train with an Irish dance school from November through to mid February 2009. I will be living in a convert stone schoolhouse that was built in 1831 in a small village just outside of Ennis called Labasheeda, which overlooks the Shannon estuary. I will train 3 days a week with a renowned Irish dance teacher and hopefully take some Gaelic language classes. This is an opportunity of a lifetime. On the weekends I will be travelling all over Ireland and England to compete. On those weekends that I am not competing I will be taking advantage of a "low cost" airline and flying to places like Barcelona Spain or Prague for less than $10 each way. This is what I have planned for my summer and my future. Have you thought about where you would like to be in 5 years or even what you would like to be doing this time next year? We are a lucky generation; we have access to opportunities that our parents could only dream about. We have the support of our families and communities and unlike our parents generation we don't have to rush into a decision we have the time to enjoy life and make sure when we commit to our careers and path in life that this is what we will be really happy doing. Have a lovely summer break. I will think of you all when my stone cottage is covered in snow :) Bookmark/Search this post |
